With Christmas right around the corner, most people are decorating the interior and exterior of their homes for the holiday. During this time of year, a lot of damage to walls, brick and roofs can be done if decorations aren’t done with care. Luckily, there are ways to decorate to minimalize potential damage or to remove the threat of it altogether.
It sounds simple, but one great way to avoid damage is to use fixtures you already have. You can hang decorations from light fixtures, curtain rails ext. to avoid some wall and ceiling damage. You can also use command strips/hooks to hang items to your door or on your walls, they are usually easy to remove and leave little to no damage.
As far as exterior work, brick clips to hang lights are a great idea. Instead of drilling into your brick (yes, many people do this), attached the brick clips to exposed brick. When you are hanging your lights, do not lean your ladder on your gutters, this can cause damage to the gutter and is also a safety hazard. Do not hang any lights with nails or a staple gun! Both of those can cause damage to shingles and cause leaks. There are many types of clips besides brick clips, so find the appropriate one for your roof and use those.
Always put safety first and hire a professional if you are unsure of how to tackle your project!
